The victory last month of leftwing President Gustavo Petro in Colombia upturned assumptions about the possibilities of the ‘new Pink Tide’ in Latin America. The country has long been a bastion of capitalist exploitation and the authoritarian right.

Alice Gray spoke to Dr Laura Correa Ochoa, a research fellow at Rice University and an expert on Columbian social movements about the past, present, opportunities and dangers of this new front in the struggle for Latin America.
